~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Three Phrases, three words each, with each three words meaning one Greek word!
I have fought
I have finished
I have kept
I have fought-
75, agonizomai, ag-o-nid´-zom-ahee; from 73; to struggle,
=>lit. (to compete for a prize)
=>fig. (to contend with an adversary)
=>gen. (to endeavor to accomplish something):— fight, labor fervently, strive
Paul gives some words to Timothy in context with these three phrases, let us take verse 5, the verse just before the words “I am now ready to be offered.” This is Paul’s last will and testament so to speak. Paul is seen here read to be offered, on his deathbed of marytrydom, he is ready. The words are important!
Watch in all things
Endure Afflictions
Do the work of an Evangelist
Make full proof of your ministry
Now while not all are in the ministry, all can spread the good news [Evangelist], and in their own family, friends, and neighborhood they can minister [your personal ministry], by making full proof of it, that is, as Paul says of himself, “I have fought, I have finished, I have kept”, so must each one of us!
Running the Race: All run in a race, but only one will receive a prize. But for you and me, we are to run that you and will obtain. For in this race, it is on faithfulness and keeping ourselves focused on the Lord and the prize.
Pauls words here also speak of being temperate in all things.
While those who run a race do it for a corruptible crown, you and I run for an incorruptible one!
Temperate:  CONTINENCY
enkrateuomai , “in,” kratos, “power, strength,” lit., “to have power over oneself,” is rendered “(if) they have (not) continency” (i.e., are lacking in self-control), in 1 Cor. 7:9, rv; kjv, “can (not) contain”; in 9:25, “is temperate.”
Paul says of himself here, “I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”
1 Corinthians 9:24  ¶Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
25  And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
26  I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
27  But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
Furthermore, Paul says to the Ephesians to “be ye followers of G-d as dear children”.
1. Walk in love as Christ loved us, giving himself for us
2. But here we find also an example of  “Temperance, Continency” i.e. “Having power over oneself”, “self control”
3. Let no one deceive you in this matter, those that do these things will not have any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of G-d!
So here referring to his words “I have fought” literally meant he kept his body in subjection and was a follower of G-d, as his dear child.  He walked in a manner opposite to the “children of disobedience, v 6 below! Further saying “be not ye partakers with them” v7, but to walk as light in the Lord, as children of light, for out of this the Fruits of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth.
Ephesians 5:1  ¶Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
2  And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
3  ¶But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
4  Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
5  For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6  Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
7  Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
8  For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
9  (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
10  Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
Further, we are to reprove the works of darkness
Walking circumspectly, not as fools but wise
Redeeming the time, days are evil!
{loadposition content-adsense}
Circumspectly: ACCURATELY
akribos, is correctly translated in the rv of Luke 1:3, “having traced the course of all things accurately” (kjv, “having had perfect understanding”).
=>It is used in Matt. 2:8, of Herod’s command to the wise men as to searching for the young Child (rv, “carefully”; kjv, “diligently”);
=>Used in Acts 18:25, of Apollos’ teaching of “the things concerning Jesus” (rv, “carefully”; kjv, “diligently”);
=>Used in Eph. 5:15, of the way in which believers are to walk (rv, “carefully”; kjv, “circumspectly”);
=>Used in 1 Thess. 5:2, of the knowledge gained by the saints through the apostle’s teaching concerning the Day of the Lord (rv and kjv, “perfectly”).
=>The word expresses that “accuracy” which is the outcome of carefulness.
11  And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
12  For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
13  But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
14  Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
15  See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
16  Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
This is “I have fought”, understanding that in 2011, we are “children of our G-d” we are to walk as “children of light” exposing the “works of darkness”, walking circumspectly [carefully], not being fools but wise, redeeming the time G-d gives to us.
I have finished-
5055, teleo, tel-eh´-o;
=>to end, i.e. complete, execute, conclude, discharge (a debt):— accomplish, make an end, expire, fill up, finish, go over, pay, perform.
=>from 5056- termination, the limit at which a thing ceases to be (always of the end of some act or state, but not of the end of a period of time)
Completing the work, executing work given, to conclude, to make an end, and accomplish the work you have been given.
Example: Jesus giving Parables of the kingdom, same word, meaning here, he finished the work of giving parables of the kingdom, but yet, the totality of the kingdom has not been completed. He finished this part of it.
Matthew 13:53  ¶And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence.
Matthew 19:1  ¶And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan;
Matthew 26:1  ¶And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples,
Example: Jesus on the cross, “It is finished”, same word, same meaning here. He finished, completed, executed according to the Fathers word all things, he accomplished it, made an end and brought to man salvation. But yet, the totality of the kingdom again has not been brought in yet!
John 19:30  When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
Example: Here we find in Revelation the word 5055, telo, same word, same meaning. It is in the context of the Revelation. We find Work that must be completed, executed, according to the Fathers word. Here it refers to the “Mystery of God being finished”.
Revelation 10:7  But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.
Example: Again same word, 5055, this section refers to the two prophets to come and when they finished, complete, execute, bring to an end their testimony, then they will be killed. This again as the others refers to the work finished, but not to the overall work, yet to be completed at the end of time.
Revelation 11:7  And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
Example: Again word 5055, this speaks of the 1000 year millenium that it will be executed, completed, brought to a close, and all aspects of it, this is one portion of work that must be finished, but the totality of the work is not yet completed, one day it will be.
Revelation 20:5  But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
So, in 2011, there is work to be done, completed, executed, in which we as the disciples of the Lord must do. We must declare this generation in the Lord, that is, we are his witnesses to this generation. One part of the whole plan, yet, we must discharge this debt, calling, discipleship, in faithfulness to the Lord. As his workers in the field.
We find Luke chapter 12 a good stewardship chapter!
The Warning:
Luke 12:1  ¶In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
Why beware? Because all will be revealed, nothing hid, all will be known.
What you speak in darkness, will be heard in the ligh
What you speak in the ear in closets will be proclaimed on housetops
2  For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.
3  Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.
Do not fear those who kill the body!
Why? Because there is one who after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell, yea fear him!
4  And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
5  But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.
Confession or Denial of the L-rd!
Luke 12:8  Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:
9  But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.
Speaking against the Son of man or the Holy Ghost!
10  And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.
Persecuted and brought before the powers that be!
11  And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:
12  For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.
Laying up Treasure for yourselves or for G-d!
Luke 12:16  And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:
The Rich Man – [also can be seen as a Type of America or other rich nations]
17  And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
18  And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.
19  And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
The judgment:
20  But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
21  So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
{loadposition content-adsense}
Unto his disciples, his servants he saith:
1.  “take no thought”
2. “Seek not the things of the nations of the world seek after”
3. “Don’t be of a doubtful mind” [have faith]
4. “Seek first the kingdom of G-d and all these things shall be added to you”
Luke 12:22  ¶And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.
23  The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.
24  Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?
25  And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?
26  If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?
27  Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
28  If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?
29  And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.
30  For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.
31  But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.
The Work, to be watching, and doing the work of a faithful and wise steward!
Luke 12:37  Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.
38  And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.
39  And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.
40  Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.
41  ¶Then Peter said unto him, Lord, speakest thou this parable unto us, or even to all?
42  And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?
43  Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
44  Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.
45  But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;
46  The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.
47  And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
48  But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
I have kept-
5083, [tereo /tay·reh·o/] v.
From teros (a watch)
=>1 to attend to carefully, take care of.
=>1a to guard.
=>1b metaph. to keep, one in the state in which he is.
=>1c to observe.
=>1d to reserve: to undergo something
Here we find Paul speaking that he has Kept the faith, i.e. attended to the Faith of Christ and his testimony carefully, and took care of it. He guarded the faith of Christ and testimony of Christ. He had literally kept the faith in the state in which it was handed to him as an Apostle.
So too, we are to keep the faith, to carefully guard the faith of Christ and testimony of Christ. We are to guard our own and those who are around us, to aim to keep the faith of Christ.
We are to guard from loss or injury, in this we must speak to our own faith, personally. To guard the work and course the L-rd has led us to walk in.
~~~~~~~~~
We are to “keep” the faith! Question, have we indeed “Kept” the faith!
~~~~~~~~~
The Test- hint “servant is not greater than his L-rd”
=>If they persecuted me, they will persecute you
=>If they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also
John 15:20  Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
Church in Philadelphia
=>Hast a little strength
=>Hast kept my word
=>Hast not denied my name
Revelation 3:7  ¶And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;
8  I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name
Pauls Example before Elders of the Church in Ephesus
“I kept back nothing profitable unto you”
“Have showed you”
“Have taught you publicky”
“Taught you from house to house”
Acts 20:16  For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, because he would not spend the time in Asia: for he hasted, if it were possible for him, to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost.
17  ¶And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church.
18  And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all seasons,
19  Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:
20  And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house,
21  Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
22  And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there:
23  Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
End of Days “marching orders” for those who Overcame!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Overcame by blood of Lamb
2. Overcame by Word of their testimony
3. Overcame by loving not their lives unto the death
Revelation 12:11  And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Who is the Remnant of her seed!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jesus Says in John 15:10
“ If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love”
1. Those who keep the commandments of God
2. Those who have the testimony of Jesus
3. Those who may face captivity
4. Those who keep the faith of Jesus
5. These are those who have the patience and faith of the saints!
Revelation 12:17  And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Revelation 13:10  He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.
Revelation 14:12  Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of
God, and the faith of Jesus.
Revelation 22:14  Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city
The Psalmist speaks “ I have Kept”
Psalms 18:21  For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God.
Psalms 119:22  ¶Remove from me reproach and contempt; for I have kept thy testimonies.
Psalms 119:67  ¶Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.
