People in America are drunk. It can be seen on the news, in newspapers, on the street, and in everyday life. People are obsessed or drunk with getting rich, working, paying bills, having fun, doing their own thing, and in almost every other activity known to man. The only aspect they are ignoring is the One True God, and His requirement to obey. Societies true to rebellion are in fact following Psalm 2 in their quest to put off any restraints this God may have put on them. The recent uproar over the Harry Potter series in another event which has made people drunk, with what I call is America’s own trouble. This trouble is America’s infatuation with the “Wine of Whoredoms”.

Moreover I was with my wife in our town mall. It is here that many go to enjoy themselves and have the company of others. During this walk in the main hallway, we noticed a large line coming out of the bookstore. The line swerved into the main section of the mall we were walking in. Until then, I had forgotten the hype surrounding what people call the “Harry Potter phenomenon”. JK Rowling became a household word as did the boy wizard name Harry Potter. Kids, who never did much reading at all, suddenly became enthralled. Words that the series would go down in history, only next to the Star Wars trilogy were thrown about.
In the line were witches, young people dressed in all kinds of getup with colored hair from red to green dotted the line. All were happy, almost joyous that this day had come; at least that is what it looked like. It was early in the morning; after the series came out that the news media had pictures of the event from all over the globe. The news clips featured young children, medium age kids, and others jumping up and down, smiling faces, and what looked like rapturous joy. All over a boy wizard that had made the craft of witchcraft come alive and look irresistible. My first thoughts were “give me a break”.
According to a poll by the Barna group taken over a period of three years, up to 2005, a startling fact was learned. In the results, Barna said that 84% of teenagers or 4 out of every 5 teens had personally read or watched Potter. The results further showed that over 77% of church going teens and 78% of born again Christian teenagers have also seen or watched Harry Potter.

If it were not startling enough, the silence of churches on this matter is astounding. Seen as a once in a lifetime event, the series has been heralded by some in the church as a way to get the youth reading again. This series indeed has done that. The problem is what is associated with the series. Pure witchcraft, magic, and spiritism are pushed upon the youth. They see exciting adventures, a way of life that brings home the thrill of having the power to make a difference with the conjure of magic. At a time when the mainstream churches have no power, that is nothing that would make someone take up and notice, the series is making headway into America. Many churches are emptying out, with dry sermons, prayer unanswered, no divine healings, immorality, and a gospel of prosperity and ease.

We are definitely in a different time period in America. The event of the magical spell by Harry Potter upon just America alone is the sign of the times. Even Universal Orlando is partnering up with Warner Bros and Entertainment Inc to produce the “worlds first fully immersive Harry Potter themed environment based on J.K. Rowling’s Books and the Warner Bros. films. It is expected to open in 2009”. [abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/popu;?id=3236199]

At a time when mainline Christianity and its influence on the American culture are waning, other religions and even witchcraft itself is breaking onto the scene. No longer an American Christian culture based on the bible, the nation whose motto on the coins is “In God we Trust”, can clearly be seen as reflecting a culture of many gods. This is further seen in something one of our presidential candidates mentioned. Hillary Rodham Clinton was quoted by the Los Angeles Times that “Islam is the fastest-growing religion in America, a guide and pillar of stability for many of our people…” (Hillary Rodham Clinton, Los Angeles Times).3 Now we are talking about Harry Potter, but the above quote gives rise to the fact that America is being raised up as a harlot of harlotries. The powers that be in America want to keep power. They will do so, no matter who they have to please. No longer a society gripped by the fear of the One True God, it is a society where anything goes and the majority rules, democratically.

In one survey done by the ARIS (American Religious Identification Survey, the results showed that Wicca, known as a Neopagan religion, aka ‘Witchcraft’ has seen growth that is nothing short of astounding. Growth within the ‘fasting growing religion in terms of percentage’ revealed that in 1990 they had 8,000 adherents. Then in 2001, a growth of 134,000 followers was revealed, according to this survey. The Wiccans and Neopagans themselves have been known to hold to the theory that no one really knows how many such adherents there are since many don’t have a formal membership or tracking as in many Christian denominations.

Since the arrival of Harry Potter on the scene, you can be assured that the growth into this area with those who may not practice Wiccan or Neopaganism, but accept it has reached into every demographic group. Related to this group is out and out Occultism which also has seen an explosion in the world. It is no doubt that Harry Potter has been one of reasons for it. Some estimates of related Occult activity in the USA revealed that there are 10,000 Astrologers with an estimated 40 million people consulting their own horoscopes or ones of others that is according to McCall magazine. Add to this a round figure of 300,000 witches in America, along with New Age, Theosophy, Yoga, Kabala, and many other groups, then you can see why the wine of deception pictured as the Golden cup can actually be seen as overflowing into all nations.
The simple fact is the conjuring up of formulas, with magic spells, and potions relates directly to Witchcraft and the occult. It brings a power to those who use it and gives many that direct contact with the spirits on the other side. It is this contact that will actually bring in the “son of perdition” who is spoken of in 2 Thessalonians chapter 2. He comes as a direct result of the world and society rejecting the “love of the truth” which can be found in John 3:16. The world is panting after all sorts of religions, spirits, answers, with related New Age and mystical offerings appealing to the masses. The simple fact of America being swallowed up by other religions and gods besides that of the traditional Christian and Judeo relationship to the God of all Gods and His son Jesus Christ is setting the stage for the world global delusion coming. Those who disagree with this assumption will label Christians as haters, mad, and an extermination of them will begin even more in earnest (for it has already started).
Kids who never have understood the God of the Bible or his Son Jesus Christ (Messiah Yeshua) now openly learn of the cultic formula related to spiritism and magick (Magick is Alistair Crowley, the “wickedest man on earth” version of the spelling). It is this related activity that is enthralling the youngsters and adults of today. They are swept away with the mysticism, power, and adventure that the novels of J.K. Rowling bring to the table. In fact, she is a great writer. But the trouble is the seeds which her writing has brought to society. At no time in history have we seen such an enthralling, appealing devotion to a cultic master as we have observed today. Behind all this are dark powers, fomenting a wine that the world will sip and be carried away with. The league of Satan is eyeing a time when he will reign on earth and bring his rebellion to a full ripe end. An end in which he, deluded as he is, see’s victory over the Lord Himself.
We would ask the church to stand up against this evil, bringing truth to the kids today and to society itself. For them, however, they see it as nothing but literature with the characters of good and evil. The observation that this trend is wrong along with the glamorous treatment of the magick and occultism embedded within the sweeping tide of mystic promotion has been largely ignored. Jesus warned us against the ‘salt losing it savors’ and the ‘light being put under a basket’. If the church cannot be salt to preserve what society is left or be a light to point the way to a True God given wisdom and salvation, what hope is left?
Can we as a people survive the onslaught against America today? For many with whom I and others have warned on the current trend in America, the answer comes back with a ‘who cares attitude’ that brings to the conversation one they are too busy to think about it and two that America is much to powerful to fall. As a result they don’t worry about it. I have talked with many in the church today who are satisfied and full. They are comfortable and are busy. Many simply cannot see the forest for the trees so to speak. The danger cannot be seen, the trend is not there, and not do they believe America could ever fall.
In a final point, there are Muslim groups, within the United States who see this as “one nation under Allah”. While Wiccan is the fasted growing religion by percentage of growth, Islam is the fastest growing religion in America by numbers. Christianity is seen as declining in many quarters and the churches that are left are so worldly and carnal to say they are “worldly” is an understatement. That is why Christ Jesus warned the Laodacian church in Revelation 3 to ‘buy of me gold tried in fire’. This is called the Smelter of the Lord. Israel felt first hand this “gold tried in fire”, she was carried away to Babylon. Along with Israel, went the priests, holy things, princes, and many people, not to mention the fact that the Temple of God was destroyed. If God did this to his own people, then later destroyed Babylon, why can’t you believe God would destroy a harlot called America?
