INTRODUCTION: Feast of Pentecost (Shavu’ot = pronounced Sha-voo-OAT
Line of David through Ruth: Jews read the book of Ruth and study the Torah, the giving of the law
Ruth speaks of the kinsman redeemer, illustrating Christ, Ruth gave birth to Obed, who begat Jesse, who begat David, Jesus Y’shua was of the Line of David
—————————–
Ruth 4:12 And let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bare unto Judah, of the seed which the LORD shall give thee of this young woman.
13 ¶So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her, the LORD gave her conception, and she bare a son.
14 And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the LORD, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel.
15 And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him.
16 And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse unto it.
17 And the women her neighbours gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the father of David.
18 Now these are the generations of Pharez: Pharez begat Hezron,
19 And Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadab,
20 And Amminadab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat Salmon,
21 And Salmon begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed,
22 And Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David.

Exodus 19:15 And he said unto the people, Be ready against the third day: come not at your wives.
16 ¶And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled.
17 And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.
18 And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.
19 And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.
————————–
Exodus 20:18 ¶And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.
19 And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.
20 And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.
21 And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.

The Texts of Shavuot

The Eve of Pentecost: Shavuot, 1st day

The Giving of Torah: Exodus 19-20

The Commands of Shavuot: Leviticus 23:15-21; Deuteronomy 16:9-12, 16-17.

Pentecost: Shavuot, 2nd day

Read the Megillah (Scroll) To Be Studied for Shavuot: Ruth [book set during grain harvest!]

The Next Step for Shavuot: Acts 2:1-13

==================>
The Traditions of Shavuot
++++++++++++++++++++++>
Prepare and enjoy dairy dishes, especially we like to have cheesecake and cheese blintzes with fruit. Why dairy? I like the explanation that says it is because the Torah is like milk to us, sustaining and growing us.

Decorate with cut flowers. Why flowers? I like the explanation that says we are welcoming the Torah (and Spirit) with seasonal joy.

Read and discuss the book of Ruth. Why Ruth? It is a book set during the grain harvest.

Stay up late (or all night if you want) reading Torah on the night of Shavuot. You can purchase a Tikkun Lel Shavuot or choose your own reading plan or read the first and last parts of each Torah portion.

Read some Shavuot liturgy, especially the Akdamut, which is exceptionally beautiful.

If you like (not a firm tradition), bake a Shavuot loaf or two, or at least bake some whole wheat bread (use honey if you like and even cinnamon to make it sweet).

Other Traditions:
Take Communion
Study the Great Commission
Know the Message that the first group of Jewish believers in Y’Shua brought to those on the day of Pentecost!

The Charge to Simon Peter, “the gates of hell shall not prevail against my church”

Matthew 16:16  And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17  And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
18  And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Many other Signs did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, these are written that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you will have life through his name!

John 20:30  And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
31  But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name

John 21:25  And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen

They now were absolutely, postively convinced of Jesus Resurrection by seeing him personally and also seeing his ascension to the Father.

Acts 1:2  Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:
3  To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
4  And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
5  For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
6  ¶When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
7  And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
8  But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
9  And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10  And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
11  Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

From a frightened group, dispersed to now a unified, excited, group of believers gathered in his name in the upper room celebrating the ‘festival of weeks’ or ‘pentecost’, ‘feast of firstfruits’, waiting for the ‘promise of the Father’ to arrive.

Acts 1:13  And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.
14  These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
15  ¶And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,)

Pentecost is not just about the coming of the Promise of the Father, it was about the ‘first fruits’

Acts 2:1  ¶And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2  And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3  And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4  And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 2:14  ¶But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
15  For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
16  But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
17  And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
18  And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
19  And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
20  The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:

Jesus was the firstfruit, then we!

1 Corinthians 15:20  ¶But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.
21  For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
22  For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
23  But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.
24  Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.
25  For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.
26  The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

Romans 16:5  Likewise greet the church that is in their house. Salute my wellbeloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of Achaia unto Christ.

1 Corinthians 16:15  I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints,)
James 1:18  Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

Revelation 14:4  These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.

We have the Firstfruits of the Spirit!

Romans 8:23  And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
24  For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
25  But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
26  ¶Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27  And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Romans 16:5  Likewise greet the church that is in their house. Salute my wellbeloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of Achaia unto Christ.

The Message of Pentecost!
-Promise of the Father has been received, you both see and hear!
-Determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God
-Jesus of Nazareth, approved of God
-Miracles, signs, wonders
-crucifed and slain
-God raised up
-He is exalted at the right hand of God
-He will put down all enemies
-He is both LORD and Christ
-We are all witnesses to this

Acts 2:21  And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
22  Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
23  Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:
24  Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.
25  For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:
26  Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:
27  Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
28  Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.
29  Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.
30  Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
31  He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.
32  This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

Acts 2:33  Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
34  For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
35  Until I make thy foes thy footstool.
36  Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

The Firstfruits of Pentecost, just the beginning!
-3000 added, the firstfruits!
-God’s righteous act to redeem Israel and all who will believe, fulfilling Mt. Sinai

Jewish tradition asserts that YAHWEH God wrote the Ten Commandments on tables of stone with His own finger and gave them to humanity on the day of Pentecost. This teaches us that a work of the Holy Spirit is to write the laws of God upon the tables of our hearts (2 Corinthians 3:3).

“Ye shall bring out of your habitation TWO WAVE LOAVES (wheat bread)….they are the firstfruits unto the Lord.” Lev. 23:17

Here is another invaluable truth to be learned from this agricultural feast. God said, “Ye shall bring out of your habitation TWO WAVE LOAVES (wheat bread)….they are the firstfruits unto the Lord.” The spiritual and prophetic lesson to be learned from this demonstration of the Old Testament concerns the Jew and Gentile people. The spiritual crop that God will harvest out of these two nations of people is represented in the two loaves (1 Corinthians 10:17; James 1:18).

1 Corinthians 10:17  For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.

James 1:18  Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

Galatians 3:28  There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

==================>
Acts 2:37  ¶Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
38  Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39  For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
40  And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
41  Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

-The Three thousand lost at Mt. Sinai, the fulfillment of God’s redemptive act was and is in Y’Shua, Jesus The Christ, this was the message at Pentecost by Peter who convinced his Jewish audience in Jerusalem that Jesus Y’Shua fulfilled the scriptures!

Exodus 32:24  And I said unto them, Whosoever hath any gold, let them break it off. So they gave it me: then I cast it into the fire, and there came out this calf.
25  And when Moses saw that the people were naked; (for Aaron had made them naked unto their shame among their enemies:)
26  Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the LORD’S side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.
27  And he said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour.
28  And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.
29  For Moses had said, Consecrate yourselves to day to the LORD, even every man upon his son, and upon his brother; that he may bestow upon you a blessing this day.
30  ¶And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto the LORD; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin.
31  And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.
32  Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin–; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.

Exodus 32:33  And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.
34  Therefore now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have spoken unto thee: behold, mine Angel shall go before thee: nevertheless in the day when I visit I will visit their sin upon them.
35  And the LORD plagued the people, because they made the calf, which Aaron made.

Pentecost, Remember LORDS Death!
=================================

1 Corinthians 11:23  ¶For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
24  And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
25  After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
26  For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.
27  Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
28  But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.
29  For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.

Origin, history Pentecost!
=================================
When you enter the land I am going to give you and you reap its harvest, bring to the priest a sheaf of the first grain you harvest. He is to wave the sheaf before the LORD so it will be accepted on your behalf; the priest is to wave it on the day after the Sabbath.(Leviticus 23,10-11)

Originally, Shavuot was a time of bringing the first fruits of harvest to Jerusalem as a show of thanks but has since transformed into the anniversary of the day the Torah was given to the Jewish people.
It is customary to read from the Book of Ruth and study the Torah during Shavuot.

—————————————————–
Shavua is week in Hebrew, and Shavu’ot means 7 weeks, on the eve of the last day would be the beginning to the 50th day, from the second day of Passover “Pessah”.
The second day of the Feast of Pessah was the Feast of First Fruits, on the Jewish calendar called “Omer”.
The day our Messiah rose from the grave, it was the day of the Resurrection.
It is also worth noting that the number fifty is the number for the Holy Spirit.
So Yeshua said He would send the Holy Spirit, and He did it on the 50th day after His resurrection.
It is the second of the three Pilgrim festivals and it happen in Israel on the 6th of Sivan.
It has other names in Hebrew such as Hag Ha-Katzir meaning Harvest Festival.
It was when the ingathering of barley crop ended and the season of wheat harvest began.
But Yom Ha-Kikkurim (Day of First Fruits or Shavu’ot in the Jewish World, and Pentecost in the Christian World) According the Rabbis, this festival also commemorates the events at Sinai which traditionally occurred on the 6th of Sivan and have long overshadowed the original (agricultural) aspect of Shavu’ot.
Therefore it is also called the giving of the Law (Torah) Dairy products are generally eaten, and favorite dishes are cheesecakes and cheese pancakes. (Yiddish blintzes, pancakes)
Here in Israel it is a state holiday, and a time for pilgrimage to Jerusalem. There is lots of dancing and folklore. Generally a very nice time to be in Israel. Just thought you’d appreciate a little run down on this Biblical event in the Jewish world and should be part of the Christian world as well. In fact, there is much to learn about your Jewish roots here
Shalom, jerry golden

NOTE: Some “scholars” have noted that Pentecost is not mentioned in Ezekiel 45 and 46, although Passover, Unleavened Bread, and Tabernacles are specified. This does notshow the invalidity of Pentecost in the World Tomorrow, because the general term “feasts, new moons, and sabbaths” is used in these chapters to refer to all the feast days.
